Freddie Mac The American Dream Freddie Mac is a stockholder-owned corporation chartered by Congress in 1970 to create a continuous flow of funds to mortgage lenders in support of homeownership and rental housing. Freddie Mac purchases mortgages from lenders and packages them into securities that are sold to investors. Ranked 17th, Freddie Mac was cited for its commitment to employee diversity and opportunity. In addition, Freddie Mac was ranked second among corporations based on our charitable giving and its impact on minorities. In addition, the results of Fortune magazine's 2001 Most Admired Corporations in America survey are in, and once again Freddie Mac is among the country's top firms. Moreover, just this past October 2, Freddie Mac was placed among Fortune's list of the world’s most admired corporations. Both of these rankings are based on a number of factors, including quality of products and services; innovation; long-term investment value and financial soundness. Together these attributes signal Freddie Mac's commitment to shareholders, fixed-income investors, customers and homebuyers. The October 2001 issue of Washingtonian magazine named Freddie Mac one of the best places to work in the Washington, D.C. area. It's the second year in a row that Freddie Mac earned the honor.
